Minister of public works and transport visits Long Island

Minister of Public Works and Transport the Hon Neko C Grant inspected the new Salt Pond Dock during a stopover visit to Long Island on Wednesday.

The Hon Desmond Bannister, the Minister of Education; the Hon Lawrence Cartwright, Minister of Agriculture and Marine Resources and MP for Long Island; Colin Higgs, permanent secretary; Jordan Ritchie, administrator; Shedrach Johnson, senior manager; and Ian Bullard, project architect accompanied Mr Grant.

The old dock was in an extreme state of disrepair as a result of damage from hurricanes and extensive use over the years.
In March of 2010, the Government of The Bahamas signed a contract for $772,209.90 with Rowdy Boys Construction to complete the new dock. The work included expansion to accommodate larger vessels, dredging of the area of dockage and dredging of the harbour to create a navigation lane.
